One of these apps is WhatsApp. We can define it as a cross-platform instant messaging service, which was designed for sending text messages, voice calls, video calls, sound files, videos, location, and other kind of material to your contacts. This app was primarily created for mobile devices, and then became available for desktop computers. Furthermore, it works with cellular mobile numbers. It is for that reason that WhatsApp was conceived as an application for mobile devices only.
When it was launched, it can be used to communicate with other users individually or in specific groups, which belonged to individual users. However, WhatsApp has announced that a forthcoming business platform which allows companies to provide customer service to users at scale. Facebook acquired WhatsApp
By 2014, Facebook announced that it would acquire WhatsApp for US$19 billion. It is considered as the largest acquisition made by Facebook at this time. There were a lot of reactions against this acquisition, for example, many users experienced a loss of service and expressed their outrage at it. Of course, these reactions were not justified because Facebook did not remove this service. On the contrary, it improved its use and features.
For the same year, WhatsApp was considered as the most popular online messaging application, with more than 600 million users around the world. Next year, Forbes affirmed that the telecommunications industry would lose $386 billion due to free messaging services like Skype and WhatsApp. If the cost is lower, it is logic that people prefer these new apps.
By November 2015, the Android client for WhatsApp begun to make links to another messaging app known as Telegram. This is a block, rather more than a bug, and the Android source code admitted that Telegram URLs was identified. The word ¨Telegram¨ explicitly appears in this code. This was considered as anti-competitive and no explanation was given by WhatsApp.
